I'm tired, had to work over, got the flu, knees hurt, woke up late, no energy, work meetings, gym crowded, but it's my day off, holidays, company came over, too irritated, ate too much, feet are swollen, need new shoes, ran out of bath towels, forgot my lock, favorite machine down, couldn't watch the game, forgot my ipod, ate lunch instead, twisted my ankle, forgot my workout plan, trainer was sick, lost my workout gloves, locker room closed, ate too many cookies, feel nauseous, forgot my water bottle, my friend couldn't come, went shopping instead, feel too bloated, too many skinny girls, no good magazines, staff is crabby, it's that time, bad hair day, workout clothes need washed, american idol is on, I may be pregnant, the dogs need walked, I didn't get enough sleep, the weather is too cold, I forgot my umbrella, and...and...and...
I'd like to feature SS this week. He is one of the most dedicated people I know, true to his trade.
As a matter of fact, before my official 'program with the trainers' started, I worked out with him
for 3 days. I told him I had a kickboxing background so we did some punching and kicking drills. How
exciting that was, even after 12 years, it all came tumbling back. I loved it! I'm so proud of SS, he's a martial artist himself. And a great one at that. When he trains here at the club, he trains HARD. He's competed in the NASKA and NBL tournaments to name a couple, and was just rated #1 in his division and came home a true
world champion!!! Congratulations SS on all of your accomplishments!!!want more?
...well I was really scared for this weigh-in because it didn't feel like I reached my potential. The good news is I lost 3 lbs. and .75 inch in the chest, gained an inch in the waist (boooo) and stayed the same in the hips. My BMI and BF went down which is good, BUT, I needed to go up 3 lbs in my lean weight mass and that didn't happen. Which means I need to work harder on the lifting part of my routine and stick with it this time.
So, after four months I lost 16.5 pounds
chest: 3 inches
waist: 2.25 inches
hips: 3 inches
thigh: 2.25 inches
bicep: 2.25 inches
I'm happy but I would have loved to hit that 20 pound mark. Almost made it. I won't give up. I know I'm healthier, I feel great and I'm starting to look better that what I did. I have a long way to go, but I'm still excited.
I've realized tho, that it's the Personal Trainers who keep it altogether for you. If I had continued training with them, I know the results would have been better. I simply am easier on myself. Cheers~here's to my workout tomorrow!
Well, things seem to be slow since I've come back from vacation..ahhhh, the workouts have been okay. I'm officially on my own now, and I realize I'm not as 'hard' on myself as when I was working out with the trainers. I do believe the results will have been better, but we shall soon find out. Dec. 1st is the next weigh in. Since the 12 weeks are over and I was allowed to eat chips, I did, and realize once more, I cannot eat them ever. I just can't stop at a few. So, I'm still going to try and only eat bread twice a week, chips a no no, and soda just occasionally. I still need to work better on eating healthier. And water. I'm still not drinking a lot of water. I know it's so good for you, your system, your skin. I'll try and do better. I have been mixing up my cardio. Sometimes the expresso bike, the stairmaster, running on the treadmill, or the eliptical. I've felt sluggish all week, but glad I stuck it out and still trained. I remember one of the trainers saying even when you don't feel like working out, do it anyway, those are the days that really count. I'm glad I did. :)
Ok, am back from vacation which was quite lovely! I only got to work out once, which is pretty amazing since I would NEVER even think to do that before...but I gained 2 lbs. :(
Eating was good. Eating was fun. Eating was delicious.
But, now am back.
CS went over my workouts the past month and noticed I lost too much lean body mass. So, he switched my program around a bit and I'm adding more weight. He's checking back with me on Dec. 1st. I haven't started off very good this week. Monday produced only 30 minutes of cardio but at least I got that much in. Yesterday was spent catching up on work, and today was supposed to be my weights day but opted for cardio since I'm feeling quite yucky. There's a bug going around and it ain't biting me!
Tomorrows another day. But, let me tell you, it feels good to be back and working out again!
I know it's only been two weeks since my last weigh in, but I wanted to touch base before I left on vacation. That way I can see what the results are when I get back. The goal is to stay the same! I do plan on working out a bit whilst I'm there, that will be a first for me!!!
But guess what? I've lost weight AND inches every single week! K is so proud of me! I am proud of me too!
In two weeks I lost:
3 pounds
went up in the chest .25 <--- ha ha (gotta watch what you wish for!)
lost 1.75 inches in the waist!
lost .25 inches off the hips!
How exciting!!!!!
See y'all the first week of November!!!!!
MR is our newest addition and I was pleasantly surprised when CS, the PTM asked if she could train me that day. She absolutely knew her stuff! She explained how it works when you want to tone down, to go higher reps with lower weights versus building muscles. What really stood out was that trick called 'burn down the house'.....I couldn't believe how quick my arms burned, then when I was totally wiped out, she let go of my hands and instructed me to keep pushing up.....it felt like a ton of bricks!!! What a nifty exercise!!!! I told her I wanted to tone my arms more since they are flabby and we focused on them. She also had me do what seemed like a spider crawl up and down the floor and side lunges while holding a weighted ball over my head. Phew....those exercise were tough, but good to build my core up. I didn't do well on my abs tho and couldn't raise my legs for long. That's something I have to work on. Thanks MR for your time, and once again WELCOME!
...I'm really starting to feel good. And it's starting to show a bit on the outside too. Some more changes:
I went from an XL shirt to a L.
I went down a bra size, now I'm where I'd like to STAY!
I have to get new belts.
My jeans are almost, (almost mind you) too baggy to wear.
Hey CS, I finally fit into 'those pants' I told you I could barely get on 2 months ago!
So, this is really working. Next month brings my yearly physical. I'm anxious to see where my cholesterol is at.
Tomorrow I'm getting a haircut, that will take five more pounds off.
;)
...I have to admit I was a bit anxious when I knew I was working out with LA. I had overhead someone say he wanted to train me last when I was strong. I warmed up on the elliptical then we 'hit it.' His workout was also quite intense and hard. He noticed at some point I wasn't smiling anymore (ha ha)....The worst for me was the push ups.
I never could do them, but I tried as best I could. My arms burned so bad I just wanted to give up...but I wanted to keep going. He said it was important to keep your form even when your tired. He said mine was good and I was able to finish all the reps. He explained my core just wasn't in the stomach area, so we worked a lot on legs, gluts and back. Squats, squats, squats. He informed me I was gonna be 'sore tomorrow', and I believed him. In between my circuits he had me walk very fast on the treadmill. He asked if I ran, I said no, tho I eventually got into a slow trot! LA was very informative and explained what happens when your muscle tissue is torn down and about lactic acid. He said that I should do cardio the next day, to allow my muscles to rebuild. He showed me some cool stretching I can do on my own which was very effective. 2 hours after his workout and my body still felt like a rubber band. A hot shower and 2 tylenol and I was off to bed. THANKS LA!!! I appreciated our session and your expertise!
note: Guess what! I'm actually enjoying running (slowly) on the treadmill now!
...I wanted to throw the towel in after 10 minutes. JAH's workout plan for me was INTENSE which produced alot more gutteral sounds and contorted faces. He gave me a heart to heart talk about my program, and I saw the softer side of him. That's where it ended. I asked if he taught martial arts, and he was like...'yeESSSS'. It all makes sense now. We started off kicking the bag, I was surprised how easily I got so tired. He didn't go reps, but minutes which was VERY exhausting. We did a lot of legwork which made them feel like spaghetti. The rest of the session he kept on me to 'KEEP IT UP', 'DON'T QUIT NOW', 'IT'S HOW YOU END IT THAT COUNTS'. He explained he wanted to push me, then have me go further. It took 1 1/2 hours to recuperate, but I saw a glimpse of my limits. Thanks JAH, I made it to the end!!!!
Despite the fact that I only lost 3.25 pounds this month and my goal was 5, I'm pretty happy at my results.
Here goes:
weight: 206
chest: 40.75
waist: 40.25
hips: 47.5
So, the grand total since I started this on 8-6-08 is:
Total weight loss: 10 pounds
Inches off:
chest- 2.75
waist- 1.50
hips- 2.75
Total inch loss: 7 inches
I have to work on the diet now. Not literally, I mean, diets never seem to work. I have to work on 'healthier eating'.
:)
My second weigh in is on Monday. I'm so excited yet nervous once again. I feel different. My clothes are getting baggier and I've been getting compliments from people. I had a goal to lose 5 lbs. this month. That's the problem. Not sure if I reached it, especially since I only worked out once last week. I feel so fat! But, I'll let you know the results...I hope I lost more inches too! I know I have to eat better at night. For breakfast I normally have Kashi cereal and a banana. For lunch, just fruit and sometimes nuts or salad or grilled chicken. Let's see what Monday brings!
Ok. Training with DD on Week Six really kicked my butt. What I liked about him is he got down on my level to encourage me, literally. He kept pushing me further. Those bench presses were killers, and no weight on the bar to boot! Strange gutteral sounds kept coming from my mouth the whole session! I thought that odd, so did my Gm, who could hear me even in the locker room. What stood out tho was stepping up on the incline bench, with weight, and raising one leg alternately. That was really really tough. I made it tho.....barely. Thanks DD for the great workout, and THANKS so much, cuz your the one who noticed I was working out on my own, and got this whole thing together with all the trainers. I'll never forget this, or you!
When I couldn't work out.
I think, that, may be a good sign, eh?
I just couldn't squeeze it into my day, and possibly not tomorrow either. Work related training this week. But Wednesday comes with a new trainer. Hope I can make it. I still have to update my session with DD last week.
He was something to be reckoned with!
...I have certain goals on the elliptical machine. My first was surpassing 700 calories in 42 minutes, level 16, 3.71 miles, with the aerobics x-training program. It was tough tho, especially when you had to pedal backwards and push/pull with your arms. That's what I accomplished the first month of training on my cardio days. This second month, I've noticed something different.
My calorie level dropped almost by 200, BUT, my fastest speed during one rotation went from 6.5 mph to 7.3!
The pushing and pulling seemed too light at level 16, and I went farther~4.13 miles!!! So, something is definitely happening. D, one of my early trainers explained it to me. I do believe I'm building up lean muscle mass if I remember what he said correctly. Good thing we had that conversation, or I would have probably been disappointed at my findings. This is one good reason why EVERYONE, no matter how fit you may be or seem, needs a personal trainer. These folks are knowledgeable. Hats off to the ones I work with, they are the BEST!
Ok, maybe not drill sergeant, but I certainly respect and like GT's style. Very straight forward, serious, and to the point. No messin' around here, after the first initial workout and his observation of me, we hit it hard on day two. I liked that he asked what I had eaten that day. He said my endurance was good. He added weight to my workout, and I definitely felt it the next day. We used those rubber bands which I find interesting. I'm even beginning to like squats and lunges!! Thanks so much GT for your time and energy this week, I really appreciate it!
I have to say that K is so encouraging! Every time I see her she always asks how I'm doing, and encourages me to keep going. We took the measurements today, and she was SOOO excited, she kept wanting to show the other trainers what progress we made! Here goes folks...
After 4 weeks of training I lost:
7.25 lbs
1.25 inches off the chest
.75 inches off the wasit
1.25 inches off the hips
1.7% body fat
and almost 2 inches off the arms!
Weeeeee, that part made me happy!
Like I said before, a win win situation..makes me want to do better!
Thanks to K and the rest of the gang!
Today is my first official weigh in.
I'm excited yet nervous. I don't think I lost much weight but I think I lost some inches. Things I've done in the past 4 weeks:
I started drinking much more water, and am sweating again!
Baking my food instead of frying.
Eating more fruit and vegetables.
Gave up chips completely for 12 weeks.
Only eat bread or drink pop 2 days a week.
Eating much more fiber (thanks H~your the best!)
And of course my 2 workouts with the trainers each week, my cardio 2 days and my personal workout w/weights 1 day.
I'll keep you posted about the results. If it's not good, it should initiate me to work harder. If it's good, it should still initiate me to work harder. Win win.
...I think that title says it all. G pretty much whooped my butt this week. I think his high school teacher probably made him do a lot of lunges and squats as corporal punishment or something! It was good tho. Maybe it was because more weight was added, and we did a lot of different stuff. He did offer to take it easy on me since my whole lower body was still aching, but, being the trooper I am, denied it. I think I'll have dreams tonight of those lunges with my foot behind me on the bench and doing bicep curls.....your wicked....but thank you thank you G for being tough and helping me along the way to a fitter ME!
Now I'm starting to feel really good and I trained with C this week. Don't ever think a girl will take it easy on you!
Sometimes, we're the toughest! I learned how to do training on that machine I still don't know what it's called, but it has arms everywhere! I like it, but it intimidates me. I guess I just need to learn how to use it! I kept forgetting when to breathe in and breathe out, but thanks to C's patience, I finally got it in the end! She kept correcting my form which is good, because I know that's the first step, and after you get the form down, then you can add weight. We also went over my personal training workout that her and K put together for me. I really like it, and promise to do it every Wednesday! Thanks so much C, for your time and encouragement, much appreciated!
I worked out with D this week. It really was an eye-opener. He showed me a lot of steps on the bosu, and I really like his style of training. What seemed so basic to me, was very very hard, which was pretty amazing. I learned how to do proper squats, but what really stood out, was the trx straps. I'm still talking about it. How just a band can give you such a proper workout! My arms burned almost immediately!! I definitely want to add that little trick to my workout regimens. Thanks D, luckily I can remember everything that you showed me, and thank you ever so much for being a part of my transformation!
I started the regimen with M. I felt confident that since I had already been doing some cardio in past weeks I could keep up. Well, barely. In two days we accomplished a lot, and I learned a lot. He gave me a lot of pointers and stressed how important nutrition was as part of my daily life change. That really got me to thinking, and start looking at the side of boxes and such. I have to say tho, what really stood out was me sprinting up that dreaded staircase two at a time! I do know the hard stuff for me to do is probably the best to work on...no pain, no gain, eh?
But thank you M. I really appreciate your time and effort with my journey!
I started off the week with K and my kickoff. She made me feel really comfortable. She took my measurements, blood pressure, resting heart rate, all of that good stuff.
I weighed in at 216 lbs.
I am more embarrassed at seeing my measurements on paper than anything.
I come in at a hefty
43.5 chest
41.75 waist
50.25 hips
We did some what I like to call stability and agility tests. This will be really interesting
how well I do in the end because some of that stuff was hard!
K made me feel really good when she asked what I had eaten the day before, after reminiscing
about bread layered with hamburg gravy, fried potatoes with onions and jalapenos, more bread and
more gravy, I embarrassingly said, 'that's bad'..and she smiled and said, 'that sounds good to me!'.
I don't quite remember when it happened. But can you imagine the shock I had when I woke up fat?
All of a sudden
...my knees started hurting
...my clothes started shrinking
...my arms felt like buoys
...my knees became cankled...(chubby)
And worse, I wasn't feeling so hot. Well, I wasn't feeling so hot hot either.
I had forgotten how good it felt to feel good.
So, as the toad once said, 'let the transformation begin!'
